Expertise
What makes Thornfield’s structural engineering services unique?
Our expertise lies in blending technical precision with thoughtful design. Some of our team have worked in construction, swinging a hammer before becoming an engineer. This perspective helps us develop solutions that are sensible and implementable. We focus on constructability, cost-efficiency, and innovative solutions tailored to your project’s unique needs. One of our team members also sits on the CSA S136 technical committee, the Canadian standard for cold-formed steel structural members.
Services
What kinds of projects do you take on?
Our portfolio includes cold-formed (steel stud) framing for hospitals, schools, subway stations, daycares, and correctional facilities; structural steel connections; pylon sign foundations; masonry veneer design; specialty structural components like pipe supports and signage; structural assessments of existing buildings;.
Do you provide sealed Schedule B and Schedule SB letters?
Yes. Where the AHJ requires Schedule B for structural design, or Schedule SB for steel stud framing, we issue sealed letters by the same engineer who designed the work.
Collaboration
How early can you get involved on a project?
Often at the pre-tender stage. Our involvement at that stage helps ensure pricing accuracy and structural clarity before the contract is signed. We are also engaged during early design to ensure structural systems are coordinated, buildable, and clearly documented.
Projects
Where do you work?
We are based in Chilliwack, BC and work across British Columbia (the Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver, the Interior, and Vancouver Island), Saskatchewan, and the United States. Members of our team hold professional registration in BC, Saskatchewan, Wisconsin, and Washington.
